The spirit of giving: donating this season
Celebrating the season can be done in a series of different ways. One such aspect is through donation – be it money, clothing or even gifts; donating to various organization or even directly to whoever you deem needs it, is possibly one of the most fulfilling acts. Here are a few aspects to consider before-hand;
1. Donate to your cause
Finding a cause you’re passionate about and contributing should be your first consideration when donating. Be it children, education or even animal welfare – this also helps narrow it down and streamline where your money will be heading.
2. Organization vs Individual contribution
Whilst some people prefer donating through organizations of their choosing, it is also possible for individuals to reach out to orphanages, elders’ homes and even animal rescue groups to donate directly. Map out a list of pros and cons before selecting which method you want to utilize.
3. Understand and evaluate the organization
There’s nothing more frustrating than finding out that the organization you chose to donate to is a farce – as such conduct research before you do so. Looking through their financials as well as understanding the work a particular organization engages in and its success rate – you can soon develop a picture on where your money is actually headed.
4. Donate more regularly
Find out how you can donate on a year round or bi-annual basis rather than annual. Options where you can give smaller contributions more frequently may actually be better for organizations as well as those who benefit.
5. It doesn’t have to be money!
Donating does not entail just money and can come in the form of volunteering your time towards a cause. Supporting local organizations during the season may be especially important as activities to celebrate the season increase and they may need some helping hands!
